Great oral health is available for kids if you’re willing to teach themYour kids deserve to have healthy, happy mouths. In fact, we all do. Kids do especially simply because their mouths are still developing and are more prone to developing a disease than others. Teaching kids how to practice great dental hygiene isn’t difficult, but it does take some time and patience. They need to understand the “why” of practicing good dental hygiene. They’ll thank you for it when they’re all grown up and have kids of their own.

At Southridge Dental Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we want you to be a part of our dental family. When you’re a part of our dental family, we’ll ensure your children are up-to-date on their dental procedures and are given a clean bill of health. Denton, TX dentist, Dr. Dunson II, is here to help you teach your kids the proper way to maintain excellent oral health. With kids of his own, he understands the time and dedication it takes to teach young ones proper oral health. He’s the family dentist Denton families can trust. We have the family dentistry you could use for years.

Oral Health for Kids Starts With You

Home is where the heart is, and where dental hygiene can get a major boost. True, coming into our office will help our team keep your mouth in check, but since it’s only recommended that you see us twice a year, that leaves a lot of left over time at home to practice brushing and flossing techniques.

Young teeth are more susceptible to disease and other harmful bacteria than an adult’s mouth. Why is this? Because a child’s mouth is still developing, thus being the perfect opportunity for problems to arise. It’s important that you teach and help your kids to brush at least twice a day. By doing this, you’re helping them remove food particles and other bacteria from their mouth. It also helps rid their smile of tooth decay, plaque and more. While brushing is very important, flossing is equally as vital. Floss should gently be used on a child simply because their gums are more exposed than an adult’s.

General Checkups Help, Too

Unless you hold a degree in dentistry, it’s best you take your kids to our office so they can be properly treated. This isn’t to say that you’re not up to the task, it’s just best to leave the cleanup work to the professionals. Dr. Dunson II will thoroughly examine your child’s mouth and check for problems. General checkups aren’t necessary multiple times a year, just once every six months. This is more than ample time for us to address problems in their infancy. Plus, this gives you a chance to discuss any concerns or ask questions about you or your children’s oral health.
